NISKU, Alta. – Explosions and large flames lit up the night sky when a fire broke out at a recycling business in an industrial park south of Edmonton.

The blaze erupted late Wednesday night at a Nisku-area company that recycles aerosol and compressed gas products. Witnesses say debris was blown into the air at the height of the blaze.

Around 30 firefighters fought for hours to contain the flames to a work yard and save the company’s building. There were no reports of injuries and crews remained at the scene Thursday morning watching for flare-ups.

A vacuum truck was brought in to suck up water and chemical that flowed into the sewer system during firefighting efforts.
