“Its amazing how our business has just evolved over the past year,” says Reg Sloan, one of the principals of The Human Resources Office, (HRO). Hes a true believer in the power of networking. It was at a networking meeting, in 1996, that he met Lolita Piccininni and in 2000, they decided to combine their expertise, and form HRO. Sharing their first office space on the Queensway, in Etobicoke, to their present expansion phase, as they say “the rest is history.” Reg and Lolita are pleased to announce that they have expanded to a full service Human Resources Consulting Company, and a move to a larger space appeared to be a natural progression. Their new location, at 904 The East Mall, Third Floor, in Etobicoke, offers additional office space with ample room for their training facility.

HRO provides safety programs, training and consultation to assist companies to comply with legislation. They develop and implement programs that empower companies to be proactive in supporting staff, reducing illness and injury costs and responding to ISO guidelines. In a more timely fashion, HRO helps companies, who are facing the risk of stiff penalty charges, to comply with the Employment Standards Act, Ministry of Labour orders or W.S.I.B., Work Well Audits, by offering creative solutions.

HRO has recently acquired LifeForce Training, a firm delivering W.S.I.B. and Transport Canada, approved programs, in First Aid and CPR Training. Lillian Schomann, a dedicated first aid trainer, who has received numerous awards, is HROs top trainer. In 1995, she was the recipient of the Ski Patrols prestigious Bob Servos Memorial Award, presented in recognition for improving the standard of first aid instruction. Lillian explains, “our trainers, are fully certified to teach the most current techniques, in a relaxed, interactive, classroom environment that is conducive to learning and designed to put everyone at ease.”

With the new economy, most H.R. departments are trying to manage, with less staff than ever before. This adds tremendous pressure! As a result, most companies

dont even realize they may be in violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. HRO partners with their clients to develop leading edge, comprehensive health and safety programs with realistic time frames to achieve compliance. HROs area of expertise includes training programs such as: WHMIS, Forklift and Crane Operator, Certified Worker Phase 1 and 2, Office safety, Health Safety and Law, Emergency Preparedness Plans, Ergonomic Assessments and training, physical demands analysis, accident investigations, and assistance with compliance to Ministry of Labour orders and W.S.I.B. Workwell audits.

Lolita Piccinni, focuses on the companys occupational Health and Safety Training programs. She states, “Our clients report that our services and training has raised their awareness and their ability to take proactive and positive action, in regards to many legislative requirements, related to, First Aid, W.S.I.B. and the Occupational Health & Safety Act. On the plus side, they report to us how these changes have greatly impacted their companies through reduced cost, increased productivity and an overall improvement in staff morale.” Many small businesses with more than twenty employees are now required to establish a joint health and safety committee, comprised of a minimum of two trained staff members. As well, there are many changes defining first aid treatment and what constitutes a reportable W.S.I.B. health care claim. When in doubt, we suggest you call our office and we would be pleased to provide updates on these issues.

Lolita says, “I find it all very stimulating, to work with such a varied cross section of clients. Best of all, you learn something from each one of them.”
