Products designed to protect front line screeners in border security, coastal defense, immigration, cargo ports and airports

SUNNYVALE, Calif. March 10, 2003 RAE Systems, (OTC BB: RAEE.OB) the hazardous environment detection company, today announced the launch of two pager-sized radiation sensors, the GammaRAE and NeutronRAE. Designed as front line security devices, these new products provide life critical, real-time detection of hidden radiation sources. Unlike dosimeters, which provide weighted averages over a period of time, the GammaRAE and NeutronRAE are 20-50 times more sensitive then Geiger Muller or He tube technology and deliver instantaneous feedback to front line homeland defense personnel such as customs, border guards, coastal defense forces, and cargo port screeners.

Law enforcement, customs officials and border checkpoint personnel face many unknowns on a daily basis, said Bob Chen, CEO of RAE Systems. The threat of radiation exposure, whether by weapons, nuclear power materials or medical waste, is always present. Our two new radiation sensors provide these front-line homeland defense forces an important tool to detect radiation sources and prevent dangerous materials from entering the country.

The GammaRAE Pager is a pager-sized radiation monitor that rapidly detects gamma ray sources using a sensitive cesium iodide (CsI) scintillator. The NeutronRAE Pager is a pager-sized radiation monitor that rapidly detects both gamma ray and neutron sources using sensitive cesium iodide (CsI) and lithium iodide (LiI) scintillators. Gamma rays are detected in the energy range of .03-3.0 MeV and even low energy neutrons in the thermal range can be detected. The NeutronRAE is particularly useful in detecting neutrons from weapons grade plutonium (239Pu), which are much more difficult to shield than gamma rays.

Both products are designed for rugged, real-world conditions and require no calibration for the life of the instrument. They provide continuous digital readout in rem/h for gamma and counts per second for neutron, and have an optional readout for Sieverts/h. Both products require minimal power consumption and can last 1000 hours on a single, AA, alkaline battery.

GammaRAE retails for $1495.00 and NeutronRAE retails for $3295.00. Both products are available now.. For more information about RAE Systems radiation detection products, please visit www.raesystems.com, e-mail raesales@raesystems.com, or call 877-723-2878.
