SHERWOOD PARK, Alta. – A pair of Edmonton-area RCMP officers were injured overnight while trying to stop a man suspected of pulling off two robberies.

Mounties say they tried to stop a suspect entering Sherwood Park after he had allegedly stolen a vehicle in Edmonton while armed with a weapon.

The driver sped away and police lost track of him for a short period, but it was during this time that the RCMP says he drove behind some local businesses and robbed someone else.

Officers caught up to him and a second chase began, but the suspect eventually went out of control and slammed into some trees after driving erratically and at high speed.

The 27-year-old, who has yet to be charged, was not injured and was arrested when he was caught by a police dog.
