Officers received medical treatment following Aug. 23 attack
LA RONGE, Sask. (The Canadian Press) — Two Mounties were injured by a group of people in northern Saskatchewan during an assault that police believe was recorded on video by some bystanders.
RCMP say the officers were trying to get an intoxicated person to leave a home in the La Ronge area on Aug. 23 when they were assaulted by a man.
Police say when the Mounties were arresting the man, other people started assaulting the officers.
After being hit repeatedly, one of the officers drew a Taser and the crowd backed off.
Police say the officer did not fire the conducted energy weapon.
Investigators say they are looking for any cellphone video or images of the attack.
Police say the two Mounties received medical treatment and remain on light duties due to their undisclosed injuries.
One 29-year-old man has appeared in La Ronge provincial court charged with assaulting a police officer.
