SASKATOON (CP) — Firefighters had to deal with heavy smoke, zero visibility and exploding fireworks during a struggle to get a blaze under control in Saskatoon.
Smoke was billowing from the roof and front of a burning fireworks store when emergency crews arrived at the scene on the city’s east side around 9 p.m. on Nov. 5.
The building’s gas and power were disconnected and streets around the area were blocked off.
Neighbouring buildings were evacuated as a precaution, but no one was hurt.
Crews backed up by multiple trucks needed more than two hours to beat down the flames.
There was no immediate damage estimate.
