PITTSBURGH 23 Jun 2006 U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania toured Industrial Scientifics Oakdale, PA gas monitor manufacturing facility earlier today, and conducted a town-hall-style meeting to answer questions from company employees.

As a company that serves the mining industry, Industrial Scientific employees were eager to ask questions regarding the recent passage of the MINER Act of 2006. With 33 mining deaths so far this year, Santorum remarked that the increase in mining accidents is a direct result of favorable coal prices that have led to more mines operating and more miners at work. He believes that coal prices will remain favorable for quite some time, so the MINER Act is a step in the right direction. Its a dangerous business, Santorum said. We have to continue to improve safety, and obviously the products that Industrial Scientific makes are part and parcel to that.”

Santorum also remarked that he enjoys seeing a Southwestern Pennsylvania manufacturing entity not only survive in a difficult global economy, but to actually thrive and compete very effectively. You have a company here that is successful, expanding, and producing quality products in a very critical area, he said. Its very important for the thousands of people all across the world that youre helping to keep safe and protected.
