Monroe, N.C. July 7, 2003 Scott Health & Safety announced today that it has been notified by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) that several models of its latest edition of the Scott Air-Pak self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) have been approved by NIOSH. This approval is in accordance with the new voluntary standard for respiratory protection against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) hazards. This standard was developed to help ensure that first responders are adequately protected from respiratory threats in the event of an attack involving weapons of mass destruction.

Scott Health & Safety is proud to be the first manufacturer of self-contained breathing apparatus to receive approval of both our older and newer edition models, said Jack Hankins, Director of Sales and Marketing for Scott Health & Safety. We are committed to maintaining our reputation as the industry leader in product innovation and securing this latest NIOSH CBRN approval is a testament to this goal, said Hankins.

Scott Health & Safety was also the first manufacturer of SCBAs to take the additional step of submitting to NIOSH an upgrade kit for its customers that own the older generation Air-Pak SCBA. Scott Health & Safety soon expects to be able to provide NIOSH CBRN upgrades as a low-cost alternative to purchasing a new SCBA.
