Police, sheriffs vehicles, involved in sideswipe crash near Edmonton

LEDUC, Alta. – A number of people are in hospital after a highway crash involving an RCMP vehicle, two others belonging to Alberta Sheriffs and a civilian sport-utility vehicle.

The accident happened around 9:00 a.m. Friday along the southbound lanes of Highway 2 near Leduc, just south of Edmonton. RCMP say the cruisers were parked on the side of the road when the SUV sideswiped them.

Three occupants of the SUV were taken to hospital, but the extent of their injuries isn’t known.

None of the officers were hurt.

Traffic was reduced to one lane on the busy highway while police investigated.
