Suspect also accused of stealing driver's wallet in incident
TORONTO, Ont. (The Canadian Press) — Toronto police are seeking a man they say tried to choke a taxi driver this spring.
Police say the incident took place after the taxi driver picked up a fare (near Yonge and Wellesley Streets) around 1:30 a.m. on April 21.
They say the passenger sat in the backseat and wrapped a seatbelt around the driver’s throat to choke him as he drove.
The man then allegedly stole the driver’s wallet, jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.
Police have released security images of the incident and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
