N.S. man charged after construction worker allegedly shot in back with nail gun

ABERCROMBIE, N.S. – A Nova Scotia man has been charged after allegedly shooting a co-worker in the back with a nail gun on a construction site.
Police said Friday a 43-year-old man was charged with one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
Pictou District RCMP said a 21-year-old man was injured on Sept. 19 and later transported to hospital, where he required treatment.
Police said they were called while the victim was in hospital and began their investigation from there.
Media reports have said the victim alleged he faced racism at the worksite, and suggested the nail gun incident that punctured his lung with a nearly nine-centimetre long framing nail was deliberate.
“If an allegation of racism was made after the fact we would definitely follow up on that, obviously that’s a serious allegation,” Nova Scotia RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Jennifer Clarke said Friday.
“If anything further comes to light or if the investigation determines there needs to be more done with respect to charges we would certainly consider that.”
Shawn Wade Hynes of Trenton is scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court on Dec. 21.
He was released on conditions, including not to contact the victim.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
