Injured cement-plant worker dies en route to hospital

CALGARY – A worker is dead after an accident at a Calgary cement plant.

Emergency crews were called to the Inland Concrete operation in the city’s northwest on Tuesday.

A man was taken by ambulance for treatment but died of his injuries before reaching hospital.
Occupational Health and Safety has launched an investigation into the fatality, but authorities have not released the man’s name.

Inland Concrete is affiliated with building materials company Lehigh Hanson Canada, which says in a statement that the worker was struck by a concrete block.

The statement says both Inland and Lehigh Hanson are committed to workplace safety.

“We appreciate the efforts of the emergency services responders and everyone helping at the accident scene,” the company said. “Our thoughts are with our employee’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
