Calgary man sentenced to seven years after pleading guilty to Regina stabbings

Taxi driver, others assaulted in 2016

REGINA (The Canadian Press) — A Calgary man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stabbing a Regina cab driver and two others.

Leroy Redwood had been charged with attempted murder for the November 2016 attacks, but pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault.

Court heard that he was drunk in a cab and started stabbing two friends, but then went after the taxi driver.

The cab driver, Iqbar Singh Sharma, was so badly hurt he was in a coma for weeks.

Sharma hasn’t been able to work as an engineer because of the injuries and suffers from depression since the¬†assault.

The Crown had requested an 11-year sentence.
