Calgary man faces dozen charges after RCMP officer injured during traffic stop

AIRDRIE, Alta. – An RCMP officer who was injured during a traffic stop is recovering in hospital from surgery and a 25-year-old Calgary man is facing numerous charges.
Police say officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle in Airdrie, just north of Calgary, early Saturday when it suddenly stopped at an intersection.
When they tried to approach the vehicle, the driver reversed into one of the officers and two police cruisers. The officer was dragged as the driver was fleeing the scene. A second officer whose hand was injured did not require surgery.
The driver fled on foot after hitting a third vehicle and crashing into the ditch, but was arrested by a canine unit a short time later.
Three youth who were in the suspect vehicle were released.
Skyler Stevens-Rose, who is 25, faces at least a dozen charges, including aggravated assault of a police officer, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and three counts of forcible confinement.
He is to appear in Airdrie provincial court on Thursday.
