Young workers get helping hand
FEDERAL — Youth in and around Clarenville, Newfoundland who have certain hurdles to clear
employment-wise can look to the Government of Canada for a little lift.
Six local youth will receive job preparation training and work experience through the
government’s support for an employment project, notes a November 9 statement from Ottawa-based
Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).
More than 93,000 in funding is being provided to the Ability Employment Corporation through
Skills Link. The money will be used to help the youths develop the skills and experience
necessary to find a job or the confidence to return to school. Topics up for discussion
include resume writing, health and safety and time management.
“The participants will then benefit from a work placement that complements their interests
and abilities,” adds the HRSDC statement.
Skills Link serves youth between the ages of 15 and 30 who are not receiving Employment
Insurance benefits. The program helps with overcoming employment barriers for Aboriginal
youth, youth with disabilities, recent immigrants and youths living in rural and remote
areas or who have dropped out of high school, among others.
