Worker suffers serious burns

SASKATOON — Jackson Sandblasting & Painting Ltd. in Saskatoon was fined $8,540 on November 9 after pleading guilty to failing to provide or maintain a work environment that ensured the health, safety and welfare of a worker.

The conviction under Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Act follows a December 1, 2008 incident in which a worker sustained serious burn injuries during an explosion, notes a statement from the Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety in Regina. The vehicle was being spray painted when the blast occurred.

Five other charges against Jackson Sandblasting & Painting were stayed.
