CEOs sign on for oh&s leadership

VANCOUVER — Twenty-three CEOs and senior executives in British Columbia have voiced their commitment to promote the highest level of occupational health and safety within their organizations.

That commitment was put to paper by signing the Health & Safety Leadership Charter. Dave Anderson, president and CEO of WorkSafeBC in Richmond, British Columbia, was the inaugural signatory to what is being called the first agreement of its kind in the province, notes a statement from the FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance of BC, formerly the Food Industry Occupational Safety Association of British Columbia.

The 23 signatories represent what is hoped to be the first wave of senior executives to buy in; the goal is to gather 150 signatures by 2015.

“The charter is a public declaration to our employees, customers and the communities we serve that we value health and safety,” Lisa McGuire, CEO of the FIOSA-MIOSA Safety Alliance, says in the statement. “We’re encouraging leaders to add their signatures, demonstrating a commitment to providing a prevention-based workplace culture.”
