City fined for cave-in potential
REGINA — The City of Saskatoon was slapped with a $10,500 penalty after a routine occupational health and safety inspection revealed deficiencies.
The city was fined on June 17 after pleading guilty to failing to ensure workers in a trench were protected from cave-ins of sliding material, notes a statement from Saskatchewan’s labour ministry in Regina.
The contraventions of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations resulted in a $7,500 fine, plus a $3,000 victim fine surcharge. Another charge was stayed in court.
The charges were filed after an oh&s officer conducted a routine inspection of a work site in Saskatoon in September of 2008.
