Saskatchewan restaurant owner dies after robbers assaulted him, RCMP believe

Simon Grant, 64, seriously injured in after-hours robbery

LA RONGE, Sask. (The Canadian Press) — A restaurant owner in northern Saskatchewan has died after a weekend robbery left him seriously injured, police say.

RCMP say they believe masked men entered Louisiana’s BBQ Restaurant in La Ronge late Saturday night and assaulted Simon Grant.

They then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Grant, 64, was transferred from La Ronge Hospital to Saskatoon, but died Monday.

Police say the restaurant was closed at the time of the robbery. They say they were alerted to it by an employee who was inside.

The employee wasn’t hurt, police say.

No arrests have been made.

RCMP say they’re hoping to speak with anyone who was near the restaurant on Saturday night, or with anyone who may have information on the incident.
