WILMINGTON, Del. and ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ —
DuPont safety experts and leaders will address global safety topics including avian flu and emerging innovations at the XVII “World Congress on Safety and Health at Work” Sept. 18-22 in Orlando. It will be the first time in 51 years that the global event will be held in the United States. DuPont will make 11 presentations — the most of any company participating in the Congress.
DuPont will address a range of current global safety topics, including “The Need for a Step Change in BioSecurity” to help address emerging global issues like avian flu and foot-and-mouth disease; “Dynamics of Safety Management in Asia Pacific” where emerging economies are growing at
unprecedented levels; and “Using Innovation and Science to Save Lives” by showcasing examples of new technologies that are creating safer environments.
Considered one of the safest industrial companies in the world, DuPont has a workplace safety record that is 11 times better than the U.S. industry average, according to the latest available statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor.
The World Congress, which is held every three years, brings together several thousand key leaders and influencers of workplace safety policy from government, labor and industry to present and discuss emerging safety research, trends, best practices and innovations in the workplace. The World Congress will include approximately 60 educational seminars and sessions on a broad range of safety topics over four days in Orlando.
“Safety knows no borders,” said Ellen J. Kullman, group vice president – DuPont Safety & Protection, who will deliver the World Congress’ closing keynote address Sept. 22. “This global event is critically important because it focuses on prevention and collaboration – the keys to unlocking
geographical and cultural boundaries to help make lives safer in every corner of the world. We are honored to share our 203 years of safety knowledge and innovations with global leaders today for a safer world tomorrow.”
DuPont Chairman and CEO Charles O. Holliday, Jr.; Chief Science and Technology Officer Thomas M. Connelly; Vice President – Safety, Health & Environment and Engineering James B. Porter; and Kullman will be among the 11
DuPont global leaders presenting and participating at the World Congress. Other key DuPont-led presentations and discussions at the World Congress will be: using innovations and knowledge as preventive measures; extending workplace safety practices into daily lives; impact of globalization,
addressing high-risk populations, and prevention in a globalized economy.
In addition, DuPont will host several delegations from emerging economies at the World Congress including leaders from China, India, Brazil and Central and Eastern Europe. DuPont safety professionals also will provide some
delegation members with a tour of DuPont facilities in the United States, highlighting the company’s safety processes.
World Congress organizers include the United Nations’ International Labor Organization, the International Social Security Association, and the National Safety Council – the U.S. host for the event. The previous World Congress was
held in Vienna in 2002. The next one is scheduled at an undetermined location in 2008.
