San Jose, Calif. — RAE Systems Inc.,a leader in delivering innovative sensor solutions to serve industrial, energy, environmental and government safety markets worldwide, today announced that a wireless AreaRAE toxic gas and radiation sensor network was deployed at both the Guam and Oregon TOPOFF 4 exercises held October 15-19 2007.

Top Officials 4 (TOPOFF 4) was the Nations premier terrorism preparedness exercise for 2007 and involved top officials at every level of government, as well as representatives from the international community and private sector. The 2007 scenario involved response to a Radiological Dispersal Device (RDD), or dirty bomb.

The sensor network that was deployed for the Guam portion of the exercise included AreaRAE Steel monitors with radiation and toxic gas detection capability as well as PlumeRAE for toxic cloud measurement and tracking, said Jack Fernandez the President of Industrial Hygiene Professionals. New to this years exercise was the inclusion of GammaRAE II R personal radiation monitors and LifeShirt monitors for tracking the well being of the first responders.

The Guam exercise included the deployment of both the Guam and Hawaii National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams as well as U.S. military and local first responders.

The equipment deployed included AreaRAE wireless sensor networks with ProRAE Remote 3.0 enabling the first responders to use GPS locations as well as topological map exposure patterns to plan their response. Real time data was available to all responders over secure internet connections.

Mr. Fernandez is the leading trainer and authority on Guam for chemical, radiation, and chemical warfare. He was hired by Guams Environmental Protection Agency and Homeland Security Department to be their expert for this exercise on radiation response.
