I really notice this for the first time when we hired a high school graduate that could not read or write. I have a computer based WHMIS program and had to develope a class room program just for those who's literacy skills are diminishing! Double the work double the fun!!

Expecting employers to teach literacy is getting ridiculous. Why can't they just purchase employees at birth instead of getting the results of crappy parenting and lazy teachers? Stop blaming and expecting employers to do society, parents, and government institution's jobs.

One of the problems I encounter as a OHS consultant is exactly this lack of literacy. Until the school systems in Canada start failing student grades for this basic critical skill all we will continue to get is more of the same.
